Guitar Reviews

If you are looking for a new guitar, its a good idea to look at guitar reviews before you buy a guitar. There are two types of reviews that you should look at those that are written by experts who have the opportunity to try a wide variety of guitars on a regular basis, and user reviews, which are written by people who just want to let people know what they think about the guitars they use.

Expert guitar reviews would be reviews that are written by someone who has several years of guitar experience. They should also have several guitars from different manufacturers that they have reviewed. They should be able to point out the good points and bad points of any guitar, despite personal preference. Any biases should be admitted to and explained. You arent looking for someone with a Bachelors Degree in music. Youre just looking for someone who knows their stuff, and tells you why you should take their opinion into consideration when looking for a new guitar.

When looking for user reviews, you should find a site that has several reviews of each guitar by a variety of different kinds of musicians. Many music store sites have user reviews. Each guitarist has his or her own style of music, types of venues and configuration of bands that they are in. A guitarist who plays classic guitar at a lot of wedding receptions will have different needs and instrument preferences than a guitarist who plays in a rock band at clubs. Be sure to find reviews from people who are in the same genre and performance level as you are, or hope to someday be.

When looking for guitar reviews online, whether expert reviews or user reviews, here are a couple search tricks that you can use. When doing a search for guitar reviews, put quotes around the phrase, like this guitar reviews. On a Yahoo search, just this trick alone brings the number of hits down from 17 million for guitar reviews (no quotes) to just over 6000 for guitar reviews (with quotes). This search trick also works when searching for individual guitar reviews. For example, say youre looking for reviews on the Martin DX1. Put martin dx1 (no quotes) in a Yahoo search and youll get almost 38,000 hits, whereas martin dx1 will get you around 10,000. Add this next little trick to your search string a plus sign (+) right up against a word you want to have in every hit, and youll be able to specify things a little more. Martin dx1 review will get you only about 9 hits, which is because youre only getting the sites that have that exact phrase in them. If you mix things up a bit and put this in your search bar - martin dx1 +review youll get almost 500 hits. If youre looking for information about something specific, like the action, throw that in there with a plus sign attached to it too. Using these two little search tricks will help you find useful and specific guitar reviews in order to make your guitar buying decision easier.
